Golden Puff Dumplings

Serves 4-6

Ingredients ;

Dumplings
1 ¼ cup of self raising flour
pinch of salt
1 Dessert spoon of Butter
1/3 cup of Sugar
1/3 cup of Milk
1 teaspoon of vanilla

Method:
• Sift Flour and salt into Bowl
• Rub in butter
• Add sugar
• Add combined milk and vanilla and mix well
• Roll into walnut sized balls and place into boiling syrup

Syrup
1 tablespoon of butter
1 cup of sugar
2 cups of water
2 tablespoons of golden syrup

• Place into large saucepan and bring to boil
• Add dumplings and cook for about 20 mins

NOTE: if using a gas stove lower the temp a bit as it will burn ( found that out the hard way… mmm charcoal dumplings.)

Note: Best served with Whipped cream or icecream

What is golden syrup? It sounds like galubjamun, an Indian sweet. I want to try it, sounds easy enough and fast to make for a treat.

Golden syrup is a pale treacle. its a bit more sweet then treacle though.
Molasses or dark treacle have a richer colour than golden syrup, and a stronger, slightly bitter flavour.

So golden syrup is basically corn syrup? Sounds like it.
